Herbs for Weight Loss and Healthy Living – Part Three

As promised, I continue with the final part of my reflections on the health and weight loss benefits of herbs.

How do herbs help you lose weight? Well, research has shown that they are powerful antioxidants, which, apart from keeping you healthy, help you with burning fat and, therefore, weight loss!

Rosemary is exceptionally rich in B-complex group of vitamins,vitamin A, and vitamin C and is a rich source of minerals like potassium, calcium, iron, manganese, copper, magnesium and iron.

It is said to have anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-fungal and anti-septic properties.

Coat new potatoes or sweet potatoes with olive oil and rosemary before roasting, stir into bread dough, stuff into slits in leg of lamb (with garlic slivers) etc.

Similar to rosemary, tarragon is an excellent source of minerals like potassium, calcium, iron, manganese, copper, and magnesium and a very rich source of vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin A as well as B-complex group of vitamins.

The essential oil  eugenol in the herb has been used in dentistry as a local anesthetic and antiseptic for toothache complaints.  Tarragon tea may help cure insomnia. Also, it is used as a traditional remedy to stimulate appetite, help lower blood-glucose levels, prevent clot formation inside tiny blood vessels of the heart and brain and, last but not least,  to protect from heart attack and stroke.

This herb has a delicate sweet aroma. Add it to chicken or fish soups, beaten omega-3 eggs when making mushroom or cheese omelets, cream sauces for poultry and fish. Steep a few sprigs in a bottle of white vinegar and use in salad dressings or sprinkle over fish. Stir it into brown mustard for e delicious new flavour.

Thyme is one of the richest sources of potassium, iron, calcium, manganese, magnesium, and selenium. Also, it is a rich source of many important vitamins such as B-complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E, vitamin C and folic acid.

This herb  is said to have antiseptic and anti-fungal characteristics.

The longer you cook it, the stronger the flavour becomes in the pan. So, use sparingly! Simmer in stews.  Sprinkle the leaves on fish or poultry before broiling or baking etc.

With the above said in mind, go ahead and use the herbs to stay healthy, burn fat and lose weight easily!  Thank me later.:)
