The following healthy detox diet tips will help you clear your body of the toxins that contribute to weight gain, fatigue, and chronic illness.

Tip # 1. Fast. The typical juice fast consists of drinking 2-3 quarts of water and freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices over the course of a day. Unlike water alone, fresh juices supply nutrients the body needs to help eliminate  toxins and rejuvenate cells and tissues. Fasts that consist only of water can actually hinder the process of detoxification if done for a few days.

Several days before a fast, experts suggest eliminating caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and animal foods from the diet and eating only fruits and vegetables.

Tip # 2. Eat fresh and whole foods:

  • Foods rich in vitamin C – citrus fruits, red bell peppers, papaya, cantaloupe, broccoli and tomatoes.
  • Oranges, lemons, limes and tangerines.
  • Take a daily supplement of 150 IUs vitamin E.
  • Make sure you get enough B vitamins from brewer’s yeast, chicken, eggs, kidney beans, peanuts, whole wheat flour, brown rice, cheese etc.
  • Support your liver’s detoxification efforts with cabbage, kale and bok choy.
  • Drink green or black tea – they contain the antioxidant catechin which protects against heart disease and cancer, but also boosts metabolism.
  • Eat good protein to make lots of the important detoxifier glutathione. Besides lean meats, you can get protein from dairy products, eggs and beans.Boost the production of glutathione with whey powder and  sulfur-containing foods, such as  cabbage, garlic, onions, eggs and red peppers.
  • Learn to love curries.
  • Juice up your life! Your liver loves juices and so does your small intestine and all the other organs in your body.
  • Choose organic foods whenever possible.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to flush out toxins.
  • Detox with fiber-rich foods:
    • Snack on fruits and vegetables- they make you glow!
    • Put beans in your salad.
    • Have air-popped popcorn instead of chips.
    • Drink plenty of water to keep the fiber moving.
    • Take a fiber supplement.
  • Make a breakfast heaven with plain real yogurt – drizzle it with honey or maple syrup, add a handful of berries or chopped peaches and a sprinkle of your favorite nuts and enjoy!
  • Raw garlic is great on pasta, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese.
  • Strictly avoid anything that’s rancid. Rancid oils produce vast numbers of free radicals, that do serious damage to the body. Bad oils are seriously toxic, contribute to aging, and can even trigger cancerous changes in cells.

Tip # 3: Cleanse your colon with healthy colon cleansing diet:

  • Eat plenty of fibre
  • Eat as much fruit as you want for breakfast.
  • For lunch and dinner – avoid  mixing  carbohydrates with proteins as  the  digestive fluids  required by your body to break down these nutrients neutralize each other and prevent total digestion.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
